Central Bank of IrelandThe Central Bank is responsible for the regulation of financial services and the enforcement of the Consumer Protection Codes

Citizens Information Board

The Citizens Information Board is the national agency responsible for supporting the provision of information, advice and advocacy on social services and for the provision of the Money Advice & Budgeting Service (MABS).

Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg)

ComReg is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications sector (telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting transmission) and the postal sector. Comreg has a special site for consumers called www.askcomreg.ie which provides information about telecommunications and the postal sector.

ComReg regulates Premium Rate Number Services through a strict code of practice which all service providers in Ireland must comply with. Compreg has a special site for consumers www.phonesmart.ie.

Commission for Energy RegulationThe CER is Ireland’s independent energy regulator with a range of economic, customer and safety functions. The CER is also the economic regulator of Ireland’s public water system.

Financial Services Ombudsmans

The Financial Services Ombudsman is a statutory officer who deals independently with unresolved complaints from consumers about their individual dealings with all financial services providers. It is a free service to the complainant.
The Health Insurance AuthorityThe Authority enforces occupational health and safety law, it is the key agency involved in market surveillance and ensuring the safety of products used in workplaces and consumer applications and is the lead national competent authority for a number of chemical regulations.

Legal Metrology Service

The Legal Metrology Service, which is situated within the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), is responsible for enforcing the legislation which regulates measuring instruments used for the purposes of trade.

Money Advice & Budgeting Service (MABS)

The primary aim of MABS is to help people cope with debt and to take control of their own finances. The service is free, confidential and independent.

Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement

The mission of the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement is to improve the compliance environment for corporate activity in the Irish economy by encouraging adherence to the requirements of the Companies Acts, and bringing to account those who disregard the law.
The Pensions AuthorityThe Pensions Authority regulates occupational pension schemes, trust RACs and Personal Retirement Savings Accounts (PRSAs) in Ireland.

Small Claims Court

The Small Claims Procedure is a means for resolving disputes about goods and services where the amount involved is less than €2,000. It is a cheap and speedy means of resolving disputes about goods and services.

The European Small Claims Procedure is an alternative method of commencing and dealing with civil and commercial matters in respect of a small claim in cross-border cases.

Consumers' Association of Ireland

The Consumers' Association of Ireland is an independent, non-profit organisation working on behalf of Irish consumers.

European Consumer Centre Ireland

ECC Ireland offers advice on consumer rights when buying goods or services in another European country. It can also mediate directly with a trader in another European country on your behalf if necessary. Its service is free and confidential. 

ECC Ireland has been designated by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation as the only body to submit for Ireland an application for a European Consumer Centre framework partnership agreement under the EU Consumer Programme 2014-2020 covering the operations of the European Consumer Centre for Ireland for the period 2018-2021.

Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland

The ASAI is a self-regulatory body for the advertising industry. It will investigate complaints from any individual or body who considers that an advertisement or sales promotion may be in breach of its Codes of Advertising Standards and Sales Promotion Practices.

Irish Credit Bureau

The bureau is an electronic library or database that contains information on the performance of credit agreements between financial institutions and borrowers.
