Submission to the European Commission Call for Ideas on the European Innovation Council Consultation

The EU Commissioner for Research and Innovation Carlos Moedas signalled his intention to establish a European Innovation Council (EIC) as a measure to encourage and reward disruptive, market-creating innovation in the EU and help to bridge the gap between already existing excellent research and the commercialisation in Europe of the output of that research, leading to new jobs, businesses and opportunities.

In 2016, the European Commission launched a public consultation process - A Call for Ideas – on the design of the EIC.

Following a comprehensive national consultation process with a number of stakeholders, the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, as the Government Department with policy responsibility for innovation, developed a submission for the consultation.
