Ireland's European Research Area Roadmap

In 2000, the European Union decided to create the European Research Area (ERA), a unified area for research and innovation in Europe which would enable seamless mobility of researchers, and the sharing of knowledge for social, business and policy purposes across borders. Ireland’s European Research Area Roadmap of May 2016 sets out how Ireland will deepen its engagement with ERA.

This will be done as an inherent part of implementing the new strategy for research and development, science and technology ‘Innovation 2020’ which was approved by Government in December 2015. The actions included in the national ERA Roadmap represent a significant subset of those set out in Innovation 2020.
