Irish precision engineering company Dawnlough announces 50 new jobs

Croom Precision awarded with supply chain 21 status and announces 18 new jobs

Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection Pat Breen T.D is leading an Enterprise Ireland trade delegation to the Farnborough International Air Show in the UK today to promote Ireland’s growing capability in aviation and aerospace to international trade partners.

There are over 250 companies active in the aviation and aerospace sector in Ireland, contributing over €4.1 billion to GDP and supporting 42,000 jobs in Ireland.

10 leading Irish aviation and aerospace companies are exhibiting at Enterprise Ireland’s Irish Pavilion at the Farnborough International Air Show. The trade show is a strategically important platform to position Ireland as a source for high-quality aviation, aerospace and related services and to promote collaboration with the UK’s aerospace industry which has 17% global market share.

A number of precision engineering companies will be exhibiting such as Croom Precision, Dawnlough Ltd, DPF Engineering, Takumi Precision Engineering, T & T Precision & Lenane Precision. As well as Composite and Plastic companies such as Eire Composites & Key Plastics. In addition, Aviation & inward invest will be represented by Shannon IASC Group and the IDA on the Irish Pavilion.

The newly established Emerald Aero Group trade cluster will also be represented at the Irish Pavilion. Supported by Enterprise Ireland, the Emerald Aero Group represents a cluster of 16 Irish aerospace companies who have joined forces to offer services and supplies in components of Precision Engineering, Metal Fabrications, Plastics and Composites. The Group facilitates growing Irish companies with key sector expertise to join forces, form consortiums and share widespread industry knowledge in a bid to win greater contracts against contending larger companies across the aerospace sector.

Representing the growth opportunities in the sector, Irish precision engineering company Dawnlough today announced the creation of 50 new jobs as part of a €5million investment to support its existing and future contracts, due to continued growth and success in the Aerospace and Medical Device sectors. The new jobs will be created at its new 30,000 sq ft state of the art Facility in Galway City which will open in September 2018. This will complement its existing 20,000 sq ft facility.

Croom Precision also announced that it has been awarded with supply chain 21 status and subsequently the creation of 18 new jobs. It’s a remarkable achievement for the 34-year-old company which builds on the team’s recent commitment to the aerospace sector. In achieving the phenomenal accolade of AS9100 regulatory approval in September 2017, the company has experienced rapid growth following on several trade missions to companies such as Airbus, Rolls Royce, Saffran and the South Carolina Chamber. Croom Precision has invested over €2.8million in manufacturing equipment to meet growing medical and aerospace demand. Its research and development activities have won two advanced manufacturing awards in 3D metal printing where its team has been recognised on an international level.

Today, Shannon International Aviation Services (IASC) Centre also signed a new agreement with the European Aerospace Cluster Partnership in the presence of Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Pat Breen T.D. Shannon International Aviation Services Centre is the first Irish cluster to join this elite European cluster, providing an opportunity for Shannon IASC to co-operate on a European level to identify new projects, funding sources and development opportunities.

Speaking at Farnborough International Air Show, Minister Breen said: “Ireland is growing in strength in the aviation and aerospace sector each year. I’m delighted to see two Irish companies announce the creation of 68 jobs here today as well as the great news that the IASC aviation cluster in Shannon is joining the elite European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP). Shannon IASC is not only the largest aerospace cluster in Ireland, but a cluster of pan-European significance. This combined news is a fantastic representation of how well the well the sector is performing and future potential.”

“Farnborough International Air Show provides the Irish aviation and aerospace sector with an important platform to showcase Irish capabilities to buyers from all over the world as well as the opportunity to win business by developing new contacts in the region and identifying new opportunities. There was approximately $124 billion-worth of orders placed and commitments made at the last Farnborough event two years ago. I very much hope the Irish companies represented at the Enterprise Ireland Irish Pavilion can tap further into this market, deepening relationships with the likes of Airbus, Bombardier, Boeing, Rolls Royce, GKN Aerospace and related supply chains such as Rockwell Collins & Thompson Aero Seating.”

The Minister’s presence at the Air Show will help foster trade links, in particular with the UK, which has high potential growth in the sector.

Commenting on today’s announcements, Tom Kelly, Divisional Manager, Industrial, Lifesciences and Consumer, Enterprise Ireland, who is accompanying Minister Breen on the trade mission added: “Ireland has a long and proud history in the aviation sector, which is now coupled with significant growth in the Irish aerospace supply chain, both in terms of capability and performance. The Irish Pavilion will help to spot light Enterprise Ireland client companies, showcasing their capabilities and their commitment to the sector.”

“The UK aerospace market, the largest in Europe, growing 39% in the last five years, is a hugely important export market for the Irish aviation and aerospace market. The strength and international reputation of the Irish aviation and aerospace is well established, and we are focused on supporting the sector to capitalise on the clear growth opportunities in the UK and worldwide. Globally, the world’s airlines will need 38,000 new planes by 2036 to cater for projected growth”

At the Farnborough International Air Show, Enterprise Ireland will host a roundtable discussion with key Aerospace Industry Representatives in order to promote Ireland’s growing capability in aerospace and aviation, as well as develop relationships with the regional clusters so they are open to business from Irish client companies.

The Farnborough International Air Show takes place from July 16 – 22.

  • Shannon is increasingly recognised as a highly competitive business location. 2018 has seen the decision by Jaguar Land Rover to locate its world centre for software development for electric and self-driving cars in Shannon, and the establishment by Edwards Lifesciences, a leading medtech firm, of a manufacturing facility in Shannon.

 

About the European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP):

  • The European Aerospace Cluster Partnership was initiated in 2009 and ever since, successfully underlines the benefit of international cooperation despite all competition.
  • In 2013, EACP was recognised by the European Commission as one of 13 “European Strategic Cluster Partnerships“(ESCP). With this award, the Commission acknowledges EACP’s eff orts to improve global competitiveness by supporting pan-European collaboration and implementing joint strategies needed to enter new markets outside of Europe.
  • Currently EACP comprises 42 clusters from 17 countries (not counting Shannon – whose membership will add 1 cluster and 1 country)
  • Aerospace clusters are located in different structures all over the world and a closer linkage between them will ensure a constant exchange of knowledge and information for the benefit of their respective members, ideally leading to a best practice exchange within the industry. 
  • The EACP provides a solid platform which connects cluster managers worldwide and notably supports B2B/B2R/C2C-matches and stimulates innovation in aerospace industry regions.
  • Membership of EACP is conferred based on a vote of the existing members, who voted recently to accept Shannon IASC as a member.

 

About The Emerald Aero Group (EAG):

  • The Emerald Aero Group is a cluster of 16 indigenous manufacturing companies, brought together with the specific purpose of increasing Aerospace manufacturing export revenues for members and aerospace business for the Republic of Ireland. Member companies include; Dolmen DPF Engineering Ltd, Paradigm Plastics (Future Plastics), Key Plastics Ltd, Lenane Precision Ltd, Panalok, Shannon Precision Engineering Ltd, Takumi Precision Engineering Ltd, Thormac, Total Precision Ltd, Croom Precision Medical, Mann Engineering, Dawnlough, T&T Precision Ltd, Eire Composites Teo, Byrne Mech Limited and Fabricated Prodycts Ltd.

About Dawnlough:

Founded in 1987 as a Toolmaking Company supplying Precision Tooling to the general engineering industry in the West of Ireland, Dawnlough Ltd. evolved over the years to become a major supplier of Special Purpose Tooling, designed, manufactured and assembled, to the Medical Devices industry. In 2004, as a consequence of the company’s involvement with the Medical Devices industry, Dawnlough developed the Quality Management system and attained ISO9001:2001 accreditation.  This was subsequently upgraded to ISO9001:2008.

In 2010 the company commenced its Design service for Medical Device customers.  This service has grown from 1 Design engineer to 6 Design engineers engaged full time on servicing Customer requirements.  This service takes a project from concept to finished article. 

In 2011 Dawnlough became an Approved Vendor to BE Aerospace, as a supplier of Precision Engineered components.  Working to Aerospace standards Dawnlough provides a ‘Rapid Response’ service of small to medium batch production.  This service has now expanded to take in other Aerospace companies, Bombardier etc. Accreditation to ISO13485 Medical Devices standard was achieved in September 2014. As consequence of the company’s involvement in supplying Aerospace companies it was decided to upgrade the current QMS from ISO9001:2008 to AS9100C.  In July 2015, Dawnlough achieved AS9100C Status and operated to this standard. In July 2018, Dawnlough announced the creation of 50 new jobs as part of a €5million investment to support its existing and future contracts, due to continued growth and success in the Aerospace and Medical Device sectors.
