Statement by Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor on job losses in Tipperary

The Minister notes with regret the announcement by Coty that it is to close it's cosmetic manufacturing plant in Nenagh. Speaking today Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor said "My first thoughts are with the workers and their families affected by this decision".

This closure is as a result of a global restructuring by Coty following a detailed study of it's global manufacturing capabilities following it's merger with P&G speciality beauty brands.

The Minister continued "The Government will make all appropriate State support available to the employees impacted and intensive efforts will be made by IDA to market the site. My Department and the Department of Social Protection together with our State Agencies will do their upmost to help workers transition and find new employment opportunities, including the provision of retraining if required.

The IDA has already begun efforts to identify and secure a new investor for Coty's site in Nenagh. I am confident given the regions long track record as a home to global businesses that the site will prove attractive to investors looking to locate or expand in Ireland.

Having the global technology company First Data located in the region will act as an important attractor to other companies seeking to locate in the region. Recruitment for the First Data roles is currently underway.

I am confident that as our economy continues to grow new investment can be secured for the region".
