Paper-Based 3D Printer Maker Mcor Technologies Celebrates 10 Innovative Years in Business

Minister Richard Bruton T.D. dedicates commemorative plaque at Mcor’s Dunleer headquarters.

Mcor Technologies Ltd, Irish manufacturer of the world’s only photorealistic-colour, paper-based 3D printers, marked 10 years in business today with a celebratory gala at its global headquarters in Dunleer, Ireland. Joining Mcor staff, press and local dignitaries at today’s 10-year anniversary celebration, which featured demonstrations of Mcor 3D printing technology, was Richard Bruton T.D., Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, who dedicated a plaque to commemorate the company’s milestone, and Minister Ged Nash T.D., Minister of State for Business and Employment.

Mcor has pioneered colour, affordability and eco-friendly 3D printing during its first decade. Unique in the industry, Mcor 3D printers use ubiquitous copy paper as the build material instead of expensive plastics or plaster. The company’s flagship 3D printer, the Mcor IRIS, prints any colour anytime, uniquely employing the global-standard ICC (International Colour Consortium) colour map to provide the industry’s most accurate WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), photorealistic colour 3D printing.

“We’ve come a long way since my brother, Fintan, and I invented SDL (selective deposition lamination) 3D printing and launched Mcor out of my living room,” said Dr. Conor MacCormack, co-founder and CEO of Mcor Technologies. “The phenomenal growth we have achieved over recent years is due to the expertise, hard work and dedication of our staff and network of Mcor Certified Resellers, as well as family and friends who have supported us during our first 10 years. My vision is to build Mcor’s R&D-focused business into a billion dollar Irish based company.”

Minister Bruton said: “At the heart of our Action Plan for Jobs is supporting more innovative Irish companies to start up and create employment. Mcor is a great example of what we are trying to achieve through our plan – an Irish company, in a regional location, developing cutting edge technology in a fast-growing area, growing a viable business and creating jobs. Conor and his team deserve huge credit for what they have achieved. I am delighted to be here to help them celebrate their 10th anniversary and I wish them every success for the future”.

Minister Nash said, “As a local TD, I know the value that a company like Mcor brings to Dunleer and the wider county of Louth, with high quality jobs in R & D as well as sales and marketing. Mcor is truly an innovative Irish company at the forefront of affordable 3D technology, which is eco-friendly to boot. I am delighted to mark its 10 year anniversary today with Conor and his team.” Banner Growth Earlier this year, Mcor earned the Best of CES 2015 Award in the 3D Printers category from GeekBeat.TV at the CES International consumer electronics show in Las Vegas and won Best-in-Show at SOLIDWORKS World 2015. The buzz has supported the company’s prodigious growth, which includes the doubling of its employee count and 77-percent growth in the company’s sales and distribution channel in the last 12 months.

Mcor 3D printers create complex, durable and stable physical 3D models from layers of paper printed with ink and bonded together. Hard as wood, the models can be tapped, threaded, hinged, and made water resistant and flexible. Users can print hollows and moving parts, and recycle used models for cradle-to-grave sustainability.
Mcor 3D printing is ideal for:

  • Students across academic disciplines.
  • Service bureaus that need to print affordable models for customers.
  • Manufacturers who use lots of prototypes during product design and development.
  • Geographic information systems professionals who create 3D landscapes.
  • Architects seeking affordable building models.
  • Artists looking for new ways to produce sculptures.
  • Animators seeking to bring figures into three physical dimensions.
  • And medical professionals creating anatomical models to improve surgical outcomes.
