Plans to create up to 200 highly skilled jobs in the capital

Groupon, a global leader in local commerce, today announced the official opening of its International Engineering and Marketing Centre in Dublin. The office will serve as a Research and Development hub, responsible for the development of technology platforms that will be used across Groupon’s 500+ local markets worldwide. Nearly 100 highly skilled roles have already been created with plans to expand to 200 over the next two years. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Founded in Chicago, Groupon is one of the fastest growing companies in history with thousands of employees across the globe. The company is actively seeking experienced tech professionals in the fields of software engineering, data analysis and digital marketing for its Dublin office. This new team will be a key pillar of growth for the company in areas such as advanced customer analytics, marketing automation, content delivery and core systems architecture.

Richard Bruton TD, Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, who met Groupon on two recent IDA investment missions to the USA to discuss potential expansions in Ireland, said,“A key part of our Action Plan for Jobs is attracting some of the biggest ‘born on the internet’ companies to set up operations here, and our success in this area is the envy of many countries. Today’s announcement that Groupon, a world leader in this area, is establishing a research and development hub in Dublin, and creating up to 100 extra jobs, is a huge boost. I wish Groupon every success with this significant operation in Dublin”.

Sasha Berson, Groupon’s Chief Marketing Officer for EMEA, said, “Our International Engineering and Marketing Centre will enable us to better support and grow the local businesses we work with, not just in Ireland but across the world. It will play an important part in our continuing transition from a daily deal site to a true online marketplace. Our Dublin location gives us access to a diverse and talented pool of tech professionals and we look forward to building a world class team here.”

Martin Shanahan, CEO IDA Ireland said, “Groupon is a brand that we are all familiar with, given the success that the company has enjoyed in recent years. Its new centre here in Dublin will produce technology that will be of use to the Groupon offices across the world. Groupon’s choice of Dublin as the location for its Engineering and Marketing Centre is an endorsement Ireland’s strong credentials as a hub for international commerce.
