Commenting on the announcement, Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD said, ‘The creation of 60 high quality jobs in McAfee's new Global R&D Centre of Excellence is a fantastic announcement for Ireland's growing digital industry and for the people of Cork. The Government, through our Action Plan for Jobs, wants to get more Irish businesses online and this latest investment by McAfee will develop new services to make it easier and more secure for businesses to continue their online growth. Ireland continues to win new investment from global companies like McAfee and it is another positive step on Ireland's journey towards economic recovery.’
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD said: ‘The ICT sector is a crucial part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs. In the time since we took office employment in the sector is up over 11,000, and I am determined to continue building on this as we target ambitious job-creation over the coming years. Today’s announcement that McAfee, a world-leading company in IT security, is adding to its workforce in Ireland with the establishment of a worldwide Centre of Excellence, is a major boost for the sector, for Cork and for Ireland.’
Commenting on today’s announcement, McAfee Co-President Mike DeCesare said, ‘Choosing Ireland as our European headquarters gives us an ideal base of operations to do business with the members of the European Union and the countries of the Middle East. Ireland has a favourable demographic and a quality education system that ensures a plentiful supply of highly qualified people with excellent technical, language and customer service capabilities. We appreciate the strong partnership we have with the Irish government as it has enabled us to remain agile in a competitive business environment.’
He added, ‘McAfee offers excellent career opportunities within the organisation in Cork, and indeed globally, and recruitment for the new R&D jobs is already well underway. We are hiring highly talented and experienced software engineers, who will work alongside our current 342 employees in Cork, 110 of whom work within the engineering group. We would like to thank the Irish Government and IDA Ireland for their ongoing support of McAfee, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with them into the future.’
