Public Consultation on design protection in the EU

On 18 December 2018 the Commission launched an online public consultation on design protection in the EU.

The consultation is accessible on the Commission’s Better Regulation Portal under the following link: ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/initiatives/ares-2018-3527248/public-consultation_en

The consultation should help the Commission to decide on the potential need for improvement, modernisation and further harmonisation of the existing acquis on design protection. The results of the survey will feed into the ongoing evaluation of relevant EU legislation, building on and following previous research, analysis and targeted surveys carried out as part of two studies on economic (2015) and legal (2016) review of the design protection systems in Europe.

Please note that the feedback period of the consultation (which was originally set as 31 March 2019), has now been extended to close on 30 April 2019 (midnight Brussels time).

In order to allow for a highest possible participation rate we would very much appreciate if you could also pass this information on to the members of your organisations and encourage them to take part in this important exercise.

Should you have any question on this consultation, please do not hesitate to contact colleagues in DG GROW responsible for this initiative (tomas.eichenberg@ec.europa.eu; virginie.FOSSOUL@ec.europa.eu; natalia.ZEBROWSKA@ec.europa.eu).
