Consultation on Proposed Centres for Research Training (CRT)

The Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation invites submissions to a public consultation on proposed Centres for Research Training (CRT).

Innovation 2020 (Ireland’s strategy for research and development, science and technology), contains an action to increase postgraduate researcher enrolments (Research Masters and PhD) by 500 places annually by 2020 to address demands in the economy.

The proposed Centres for Research Training (CRTs) would form one element of the Government’s response to the action/target in Innovation 2020.  It is envisaged that the Government-funded element of CRTs could account for 100 to 150 of the 500 target annually with new enrolments each year subject to funding availability. It is envisaged that a number of CRTs will be funded but the annual intake of each CRT is not pre-determined.

The purpose of this consultation is to seek your views on the proposed new CRT programme which Science Foundation Ireland plans to launch in 2018 for a first intake in Autumn 2019.

The closing date for submissions has been extended to close of business on Friday 20 April 2018.
